The mechanism of industrial grade Hydrotalcite in the thermal stability of PVC:

1. Capture of hydrogen chloride:

When PVC is heated, it releases hydrogen chloride (HCl), and HCl can accelerate the degradation of PVC. Industrial - grade magnesium aluminum carbonate is alkaline. Its carbonate ions (CO32-)and hydroxide ions (OH-) can react with HCl through a neutralization reaction to produce water and corresponding chlorides. This inhibits the catalytic effect of HCl on PVC degradation and slows down the thermal degradation rate of PVC. 

2. Radical scavenging:

During the thermal degradation of PVC, some free radicals such as chlorine radicals (Cl-) are generated. These free radicals can initiate reactions such as the chain - scission and cross - linking of PVC molecular chains, leading to a decline in PVC performance. Some metal ions in industrial - grade magnesium aluminum carbonate, such as magnesium ions (Mg2+) and aluminum ions (Al3+), can scavenge these free radicals through processes such as electron transfer, terminating the free - radical chain reaction and thus stabilizing PVC.
